Sithembokuhle Mashamba is a qualified and registered Counselling Psychologist with a strong background in community development and outreach initiatives. His professional journey includes working in diverse environments such as private hospitals, clinics, correctional facilities, schools, private colleges, and public universities. Throughout his career, he has served in various roles including educator, research supervisor, facilitator, and psychologist.
Mr. Mashamba’s extensive experience with NGOs/NPOs allowed him to develop skills in trauma debriefing, event planning, fundraising, community outreach, and teamwork. He has also worked as a Zulu translator and has been involved in workshops for victims of rape and trauma, engaging clients of all ages.
In his current role at the Department of Correctional Services, he provides psychological services to inmates, parolees, and probationers, and coordinates these services across multiple correctional facilities. Additionally, his previous roles include being a research supervisor at Varsity College, an E-tutor at the University of South Africa, and a mentor to aspiring psychologists at Cognition & Co.
Mr. Mashamba’s academic credentials include a Master of Social Science in Counselling Psychology from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, where he conducted research on reading difficulties in South African schools. He also holds a Bachelor of Social Science Honours from SACAP, where his research explored male youths’ perceptions of concurrent partnerships. With roles across institutions such as Durban University of Technology and Netcare Akeso Clinic, Mr. Mashamba continues to impact the mental health sector by offering individual and group counselling, conducting psychometric assessments, and developing workshops aimed at enhancing psychological well-being.
